🤠 THIS & THAT 🤠 2026/10/23
ONE SIMPLE FACEBOOK QUESTION... Earlier this week, somebody messaged me on Facebook asking where and when Dead Man's Hand Poker tournaments take place. As usual, I typed out a nice, detailed response explaining everything. It took a few minutes, but I figured it was worth the effort to help a potential new player.
Then came another question. And that's when it occurred to me that I spend an awful lot of time answering the same questions over and over again!
So I started setting up automated responses on Facebook and Instagram to handle some of the most common inquiries. One thing led to another, and before I knew it, I had created an entire Frequently Asked Questions section on the DMHP website, covering everything from how our tournaments work to rebuys, scoring and championships.
You can check it out here: DMHP Frequently Asked Questions.
While putting all that information together, another question came up: How old do you have to be to play at Dead Man's Hand Poker?
Believe it or not, I've had a few players over the years who started playing before their 19th birthday. You know who you are! 😂 I've generally left age restrictions up to the venues, but after considering the fact that, even though our league is free to play, there are prizes involved, I decided it was time to establish a clear policy.
Effective October 20, all DMHP tournament participants must be at least 19 years old, including anyone playing Stay & Play. Identification may be requested. It won't affect any of you, but it's something to remember when bringing new players.
All of that from one little Facebook message. Apparently, I don't know how to do anything the easy way!
CHARITY POKER IS COMING UP FAST! The Above & Beyond fundraiser on Saturday, November 7 is only a couple of weeks away, and tickets are selling quite well! If you haven't picked yours up yet, I'd suggest doing so soon.
The Stoney Creek Sabres Girls U13 fundraiser follows on Saturday, November 28. Tickets for both tournaments are $80, including a buffet dinner. See me for tickets or more information.
SPEAKING OF TICKETS... Don't forget our Halloween Spooktacular is Wednesday and Thursday of next week! I've decided to sweeten the pot for our costume contests.
The winner of the Best Costume Contest on EACH night will receive a FREE ticket to the charity tournament of their choice, either November 7 or November 28!
And if you've already purchased a ticket, don't worry. I'll refund your money so you can still enjoy your free entry.
So dig out your best costume, or your most ridiculous one. Sometimes there's a very fine line between the two!
You can find all the Halloween Spooktacular details on the Leaderboard page of our website.
SUPPORT THE HAMILTON CARDINALS! One of our players, Tim Nason, whose son plays for the Hamilton Cardinals, is helping promote a Grey Cup Squares Pool to support the team.

Apparently, between poker tournaments, costume contests, charity fundraisers and football pools, I've decided nobody should have any spare time or money left this fall! 🤠♠️
