Playoffs Promo: Rep Your Team

For the entire playoffs, at any regular-season Dead Man’s Hand Poker event (the Championship is excluded), you can earn a bonus (double the chips for reward cards at the start) by showing up repping any playoff team of your choice that is playing during one of our events.

That means:

  • any NHL teams still in the playoffs (playing during an event)

  • any NBA teams still in the playoffs (playing during an event)

  • Your choice, your allegiance

If the game for that team starts at 5:00 PM or later on the same day as our event, it counts and you’re eligible for the bonus. Games starting earlier than that will usually be finished before we begin, so they won’t qualify. If a game is into a drawn out overtime and ends up overlapping our tournament, then I'll count that game too, but I wouldn't count on that if I were you.

HOW TO EARN THE BONUS

Show up wearing one of the following:

  • A jersey, hoodie, t-shirt, or hat from a qualifying playoff team

  • OR a hand-made / printed version of that team’s logo (pinned to your clothing)

If you’re going DIY:

  • The logo must be clearly recognizable

  • Simply writing the team name (e.g. “Toronto Raptors”) won’t count

  • It has to actually look like the team identity

If I can’t immediately tell what team you’re representing, it doesn’t count. Also, even though you get your chips at the start, you must keep wearing your merch or logos until you bust the tournament if you want to remain eligible on future nights!

You can print logos if you’re tech-savvy, or use them as drawing references if you’re going the creative route.

MATCHUPS & TRACKING

Early in the playoffs there will be plenty of games to choose from, but as the rounds go on, options will narrow quickly (and yes, the playoffs feel like they last forever).

I’ll do my best to post matchups on Facebook and Instagram when I can, but I can’t guarantee it every night—so ultimately it’s on you to know who’s playing and when.

FINAL WORD

Good luck picking your teams, good luck collecting your bonus chips, and good luck to whoever you’re cheering for.

Let’s have some fun with it.

Supporting Karen & Steven During A Difficult Time

Hello everyone,

I’m reaching out with some very sad news concerning members of our poker family. Many of you know Karen Rossignol and her brother Steven Sudar, who have both been part of our league for some time.

Karen’s daughter, Rochelle, has recently passed away after a battle with breast cancer at just 51 years old. It’s an incredibly difficult loss, and our thoughts are with Karen, Steven, and their entire family during this time.

As you can imagine, this sudden loss—combined with the short timeline to relocate the children from their current home—has created a very challenging and urgent situation for the family.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help support the children and ease the burden on Karen as she navigates the road ahead. If you’re in a position to help, any contribution—big or small—would go a long way.

For those who would like more information or are considering paying their respects, here is the obituary, which includes funeral details:

I will be attending the funeral, along with Smiley, to show our support on behalf of the league.

I understand that not everyone may have known Rochelle personally, but Karen and Steven are part of our community, and this is an opportunity for us to come together and support them in a meaningful way.

Thank you all for taking the time to read this, and for any support you’re able to offer—whether that’s a donation, attending the events, or simply keeping the family in your thoughts.

Sincerely,
Marty

Poker Olympics - Final Results

The inaugural Dead Man’s Hand Poker Olympics wrapped up after eight events, bringing a season-within-a-season format to the league and adding an extra layer of competition with medals and standings points on the line. Players earned gold, silver, and bronze medals at each event, with overall standings determined by cumulative performance across the series.

After a closely contested run, the final podium was as follows:

🥇 Gold – Jin Zhao (13 points)
Jin demonstrated remarkable consistency throughout the series, collecting four silver medals and one bronze to secure the first-ever overall Poker Olympics title.

🥈 Silver – Roberto Ragona (10 points)
Roberto’s two gold medal performances propelled him into second place, showcasing high-end tournament success and aggressive play.

🥉 Bronze – Norm Gaudette (10 points)
Norm rounded out the podium with three silver medals and one bronze, earning third place on the strength of steady deep runs.

The top three finishers received commemorative medals and shared a $100 gift card prize pool. The Poker Olympics format added a fresh competitive dynamic to the league, rewarding both consistency and peak performance, and will hopefully return in a 2028!
