GERRY TAYLOR WINS AT BROWN BARREL

Monday’s final table at Brown Barrel was Taylor-made for confusion. Three Taylors made the final eight: Gerry, his wife Linda, and Duncan. Linda finished fifth, and being a Taylor by marriage still counts. Nobody tell her otherwise!

Gerry and Duncan aren’t related, but both are from Montreal. Somehow, they never met until they came to Southern Ontario, where they’ve now managed to finish first and second in the same poker tournament. Small world. Rather inconvenient opponent!

This time, Gerry Taylor claimed the victory! WTG, Gerry! Our 2024 Harvest Moon Showdown champion has added his first regular-tournament win of this Harvest Moon season.

Earlier, Gerry had been the one all-in with just ace-high and a five kicker, and Duncan called with his flopped pair of threes. That was Duncan’s chance to claim his first DMHP victory! But a five on the turn put Gerry ahead, and another five on the river gave him three of a kind. Gerry wasn’t ready to hand over the sheriff’s badge just yet!

On the final hand, it was Duncan who was all-in pre-flop, holding A♦Q♥ against Gerry’s A♥7♥. Gerry was well behind, but the 4♦7♦8♠ flop supplied a very useful seven! The 2♣ turn and 9♣ river changed nothing, and Gerry’s pair of sevens settled the shootout. Duncan brought the bigger kicker; Gerry found the better board!

Duncan still rounded up seven point-scoring bounties, the biggest haul of the night. His last three Harvest Moon appearances have now produced ninth, seventh and second place. He’s certainly getting closer to that first win!

Chris Higham took third for his second podium of the season, following his September 3 victory at the same saloon. And further down the results, David Rawlings finished 13th for his first In the Points result of this Harvest Moon campaign. The headline belonged to Gerry, but he wasn’t the only cowboy with something to put in the ledger! 🤠♠️
